Books, Books, Books

Updated: Feb 24, 2021

Most of you haven't known me my whole life, but if you have, you know that I'm a HUGE bookworm. We're talking cuddle up on the couch and read an entire book in a day or two (pre mom life obvi). So, before Lilah was born I was already buying ALL the books.

We've read to Lilah everyday since she was born and it has become one of her favorite things to do. She will grab the book she wants and come snuggle up on my lap to read. It's the best feeling in the world doing something that I love so much with the little one I love the most. Reading together is not only important for literacy and language skills, but it's also a great time to provide uninterrupted one on one time with our little ones. You can't scroll your phone while you've got a book in your hand! Yes, this is my child sprawled out

reading on the book store floor!

If reading isn't a big activity in your home but you want to start I have a few tips for you. Include books in your little one's play space. Place them at their level so they can walk, crawl or scoot over to choose a book.

Make reading a book part of your bedtime routine. It's never too early to start reading to

your little one! We've read Lilah a bedtime book every night since she was born.

Create a reading nook in your house. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just a chair or a comfy place on the floor. Place some books there and when you're feeling like your little one needs connection head there and read a book.

You could also make it a part of your daily routine. For example, after we eat breakfast we head to Lilah's play space and the first thing she does is grab a book she wants to read. I've never told her to do this. It's just that when she was a tiny baby I would always read to her after breakfast. It has now become a fixed part of our day.

Okay, so now to the good stuff! My book recommendations. I have a TON so to keep you from feeling overwhelmed with suggestions I'm going to do a round up of some of our favorite books. As time goes on and seasons come I will share my favorite books for the seasons!

We LOVE anything Eric Carle. The pictures are fun and colorful and they take me back to when I was a little girl. I loved his books then and I love them now! I've linked three of our favorites, but there are TONS of Eric Carle books and they are all great. Another thing I love about Eric Carle books is most of them have bilingual versions too!

We also love, love, love Nancy Tilman books. The words are beautiful and meaningful and the pictures are a little abstract, but are so very beautiful. I've linked the first Nancy Tilman book we ever bought "On the Night You Were Born." I bought it for Lilah's first birthday. It's a great book for a first birthday but it is also just great for whenever. It's touching, sentimental and playful.

Another favorite of ours are Baby Lit books. They take classic literature and make it baby and toddler friendly. If you are a total book nerd like me, you will love these books! I've linked a few classic reads but, they also sell boxes that have more than one book in them.

Another book set we love are the Hello, World! books. They cover real life topics in a fun and exciting way. I've linked a box set with 4 of the Hello, World! books, but there are a ton and they are all great. Lilah's three favorites are the Weather, My Body and Dinosaurs!

Lilah has recently become obsessed with trains,

so I pulled out an old book from my childhood Freight

Train. It is a simple, fun, and colorful book about, you

guessed it! A freight train.

Since Valentines Day is coming up I also wanted to share some fun Valentines Day/ love themed books that we love.

We absolutely LOVE all the Little Blue Truck books and this one didn't disappoint either! Its fun, festive and brings the same charm as all the other Little Blue Truck books!

I Love You All Ways goes right along with gentle/respectful parenting as it talks about loving your little one no matter their emotions or mood.

I Love you Through and Through is another great book about loving everything about our babies. The drawings are sweet and the words are simple!

It's perfect for little ones.

Wherever You Are, My Love Will Find You by Nancy Tilman is sentimental, meaningful and beautiful! I highly recommend it.

I hope these suggestions provide beautiful and meaningful memories reading with your little one! What are your favorite books to ready with your little one? Comment below! I'd love to hear!
